M.Ed. in Athletic Administration Program Introduces Faculty for Fall Courses

The  announces the addition of seven new adjunct faculty members to its M.Ed. in Athletic Administration program — representing a wide range of expertise in sports administration and management — from organizations including Major League Baseball, Harvard University, and the Brussels Sports Association (BSA).

The Master of Education in Athletic Administration is a 36-credit program for students interested in careers within educational institutions, including secondary schools, colleges and universities; both non-profit and profit-oriented organizations that offer sport fitness and wellness services; government agencies such as recreation departments and state parks; and sport governing bodies at the state, national and international levels.

“Our fall faculty will offer students unique, real-world insight into the various responsibilities and challenges that athletic administrators face on a daily basis,” said Director of Graduate Athletic Administration Anthony D’Onofrio. “There are diverse career options in this field, as our faculty demonstrates, so we prepare students for practical skill application with this in mind.”

Fall Faculty and Course Line Up:

Specializing in business and sport psychology, San Diego University for Integrative Studies’ 
Dr. Doris Lu-Anderson has been working with sport marketing researchers to provide consulting services to the Georgia Dome, with clients such as Professional Bull Riders Inc., SuperCross, Atlanta Football Classic, NCAA Final Four, and the Atlanta Falcons. She also works with the International University Sports Federation (FISU), International Baseball Federation (IBAF), and Taiwan Baseball Association among others.  At the Van Loan School, she will be leading the Comprehensive Seminar in Athletic Administration course.

Founder of The Bowdre Group, LLC, Corey Bowdre formerly worked in media relations for the National Basketball Association (NBA), specifically for the Charlotte Hornets. He also worked in recruitment and marketing for Major League Baseball, first with the Atlanta Braves and then the Boston Red Sox. Bowdre will teach the Sports Business Personnel course.

Also instructing the Sports Business Personnel class will be Brian Porter, former director of 亚洲色吧 initiatives at Major League Baseball Advanced Media. His experience includes several operations roles with Instant Replay, Major League Baseball, the Chicago White Sox, and the Atlanta Braves; and ticket sales and community relations oversight with the A-League soccer team Atlanta Ruckus. 

Associate Director of Athletics at Harvard University and former Vice President of Advertising and Promotions for the Boston Bruins, Susan Byrne, will instruct students in the Fundraising in Sports class. Her expertise includes branding, marketing, promotions, and special events; plus ticket, merchandise, concession, and corporate sales.

Lisa Murawsky serves as the current executive director of the Brussels Sports Association (BSA) and is a faculty member at the United Business Institute (UBI). She was a co-founder of Global Nomad’s World (GNW) and former sport assistant at the International University Sport Federation (FISU) in Belgium. Murawsky will teach Advanced Topics in Global Sports Management. 

The Concussion in Sports course will be taught by Dr. Craig Slaunwhite, former director of fitness for the Winnipeg Jets. Slaunwhite spent five seasons as the Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Florida Panthers, providing training, chiropractic, and nutritional services to players. He was a personal trainer in Toronto, ON, where he worked with elite athletes in various sports in international and professional competition, and also served as on-field medical trainer for the Ontario Soccer Association. Slaunwhite earned a bronze medal in decathlon at the 2008 Canadian Olympic trials. 

Bob Tewksbury, the mental performance coach for the San Francisco Giants, will lead the Psychological Factors Affecting Student-Athlete Performances course. Tewksbury has a master’s degree in sports psychology and counseling from Boston University and worked as the mental skills coach for the Boston Red Sox from 2004-2016. An all-star major league pitcher, Tewksbury played 13 years in the major leagues with the Yankees, Cubs, Cardinals, Rangers, Padres, and Twins.
