Breaking Down the Basics of Financial Aid

Finding ways to help pay for your college education can seem daunting—but it doesn’t have to be. Financial assistance makes college possible for so many and can be an important key to forging a path to your future endeavors.

While financial aid seems complex, most don’t know that applying is quick and easy. Because there are so many questions related to the process, we spoke with Dean of Financial Aid Marcia Toomey to learn more about the basics. Read the Q&A below to determine if you are eligible for financial aid, how to apply, and other scholarship opportunities that could be available to you.

How do I know if I qualify for financial aid?
To qualify for financial aid, a student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, be enrolled in an approved program, and be in good academic standing. Most of the aid programs require that a student demonstrate financial need, which is defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the amount the student's family is expected to contribute. Every applicant's financial status is evaluated carefully so that each financial aid award will accommodate a particular student's need.

How do I apply for financial aid?
The must be completed every year in order to be considered for all federal, state, and institutional need-based financial aid. This form is used as a guide to build a student's need-based financial aid package including grants, work study, and Stafford Loans.

When do I have to apply?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available beginning on October 1 for the following school year, and you should apply as early as possible. ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É has a priority deadline of March 15, although we continue to make financial aid awards on a funds-available basis for students whose forms are received after March 15.

Do I have to apply every year or just once?
Students must reapply for financial aid each year and must maintain to remain eligible.

Is the FAFSA difficult to complete?
The FAFSA is actually very easy to complete and there is online help for every question on the form. If you still have questions, you can email the Financial Aid Office at finaid@endicott.edu or call us at 978-232-2070 and we will be very happy to assist you.

Are there any other options for financial aid available to me?
In addition to grants, federal, and state aid, Endicott offers options to help finance your education, such as a monthly payment plan through Tuition Management System (TMS), various loan programs, Endicott scholarships, and outside scholarships. The FAFSA does not need to be completed to receive these types of aid.
