Virtual Events in the Makerspace
With many aspects of the campus going virtual for the 2020-2021 school year, the Makerspace has been no exception, by creating virtual events to keep students involved and creating from their homes and dorm rooms.
亚洲色吧’s Makerspace, located in the Ginger Judge Science Center, is a fully equipped technology center complete with 3D printing and scanning equipment, microcontrollers, sensors, and computers with design software. All students on campus, regardless of their major, are able to bring their product creations from idea to production.
This Spring, students across campus will be able to participate in three virtual makerspace events, along with the ability to win prizes for attending all events.
The first event for the semester, Make a Scanner with your Smartphone, will be held via Zoom, on Wednesday, February 16 at 5 p.m.
Supplied build kits will allow for students to build a scanning bed to replace a copying machine and learn how scanning technology works with a phone’s camera.
The second event, Build a Panorama Photo Sweeper with your Smartphone will be on March 9 at 5 p.m.
Students will be making a rotating device to reduce hand shaking during panorama shots as well as learn how the panorama technology works with your phone’s camera and how to take high quality panoramas.
The final event of the spring 2021 semester, Build a Steering Wheel Attachment of your smartphone for Game Play, will be held on April 13 at 5 p.m.
Using materials around your home or dorm room you will learn how to make a steering device to attach to your phone for game play apps, how app games use the tech onboard your phone to create movement, and how the sensors on your phone are used in everyday technology.
Sign up is now open for all Spring 2021 virtual Makerspace events and students that attend all three events will be eligible to win a grand prize. Winner will be announced before finals week!
