Harnessing the Networking Potential of Career Center Events

October 14, 2016

Every day on the 亚洲色吧 campus and across the community, students are afforded opportunities to network with potential employers. Industry nights, conversations with Endicott alumni and guest speakers give you the chance to introduce yourself, express interest and share your career goals with potential employers.Networking event

Networking is about creating and maintaining relationships and is an essential part of career development. While attending an industry or networking event may not always be at the top of your college agenda, it is an essential part of establishing yourself within an industry and helping either start or advance your career. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your next networking experience:

  • Be engaged

Simply attending a networking event is not enough. When you attend, take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the speaker and ask a question. Name recognition is likely to help you later if you decide to send a follow up email to the employer.

  •  Do your homework

Employers may meet hundreds of potential applicants during campus events. Take the time to learn about the company and prepare targeted questions. You鈥檒l feel better equipped to get a conversation started, and the employer will notice your preparation.

  • Follow up

Don鈥檛 expect an employer to reach out to you just because you鈥檝e provided a resume. After an event, send a thank you email using specific examples from your conversation. Reiterate your interest and ask the employer about next steps.

  • Don鈥檛 get discouraged

Manage your expectations. Don鈥檛 expect to receive a job offer after meeting a potential employer at a networking event. If there isn鈥檛 an immediate job opening, stay in touch to let them know that you are really interested and to keep you in mind if a job that鈥檚 a fit becomes available.

A strong line up of extra-curricular activities offered to Endicott students, such as the Networking Club, provide you with opportunities to get involved outside of class and polish leadership skills that are critical to personal and professional growth. Members of Endicott鈥檚 Networking Club actively attend events, gatherings and panel discussions where they can meet and develop relationships with professionals.

It鈥檚 important to keep in mind that your time spent networking may not pay off immediately, but the connections you make will likely benefit you in one way or another down the road.
